Attendance, is it necessary?

Is attendance necessary? It is a rule to have 75% attendance in college. But as we say Rules are meant to be broken. And those of you who believe in the above statement are the ones who have below 75% attendance. Am I correct?

So, well let me tell you what can happen if you have low attendance. The most important thing is you are not allowed to answer semester exam if you have low attendance, resulting in failure in that year. Do you know what the reasons behind low attendance are? Many students bunk the lectures. Some of them have a genuine reason like they participate in many events like sports. And few of them miss the lectures due to sickness. I know we shouldn’t miss lectures, but we should not attend lectures only for attendance.

We come to college to learn and not to have attendance. So, attendance shouldn’t be a limit in learning process and it shouldn’t be a barrier in the progress of learning. I know attendance is made mandatory so that students can attend lectures, but what is the use if student only attend the lectures for attendance? Because of attendance many students waste their entire year. But what is their fault if they miss lectures for a genuine reason like their health.

To learn anything, nothing should be their stop you, even if it is your attendance. The rule of having 75% attendance should not be followed. I know it’s a rule but is the rule so important than someone’s future?
